SF&Company, CPAs and Business Advisors, with offices in York, Harrisburg, and State College, is pleased to announce the following:

 

NEW POSITION:

 

Matthew P. Conrad, CPA, has accepted the position of Small Business Services Director at SF&Company.  With over fifteen years of experience in public accounting, he will direct the department’s efforts to assist small business and start-up business clients.  Mr. Conrad will oversee services including bookkeeping, payroll, tax return preparation, and QuickBooks and Peachtree software installation, set-up, training, and support.  He will be responsible for helping clients operate their businesses more efficiently and gain an edge on their competition

 

PRESENTATION:

 

Lynn M. Craig, CPA, a Senior Manager at SF&Company, recently gave two educational presentations to the members of the Home Associations, affiliated with the Pennsylvania Department of the American Legion.  Both presentations were for legion college events held at Cumberland Valley and Greater Latrobe High Schools.  A specialist in non-profit and governmental accounting and audit, Ms. Craig covered the topic of “IRS Compliance and Legislative Developments Affecting Tax Exempt Organizations.”


CONFERENCE & WORKSHOP:

 

On behalf of SFC Asset Management, Inc., James Karchner, CPA/PFS, CFP®, and James Adelsperger, CPA, CFP®, attended the 11th annual conference sponsored by BAM Advisor Services in St. Louis.  Major topics included “Advanced Social Security Planning,” “Preserving Client Wealth Through Property and Casualty Insurance,” and “Transfer Tax Update and Solutions-Based Planning.”  Conference speakers included Kenneth French, Professor of Finance and co-developer of the Fama/French Three-Factor Investment Model, and Larry Swedroe, author of The Only Guide to a Winning Investment Strategy You’ll Ever Need.


Rachel H. Scarpato, CPA, a Senior Accountant at SF&Company, attended a Nonprofit Alliance and Collaboration Workshop sponsored by the York County Community Foundation, the Cultural Alliance of York, and the United Way of York County.  Attendees learned about the benefits of collaboration, various levels of collaboration, common myths about nonprofit mergers, as well as the right time to consider a merger and where to start.  The seminar was held at the Children’s Home of York and featured guest speaker Tom McLaughlin, author of Nonprofit Mergers and Alliances.


COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:

 

Debra K. Simon, CPA, Human Resource Director at SF&Company, has been elected to the Advisory Board of the Susan P. Byrnes Health Education Center in York. Dedicated to keeping people well, the center educates and inspires all age groups to make healthy lifestyle choices.  Ms. Simon will help the center achieve this mission by supporting its on-site teaching theatres, outreach programs in school classrooms, adult education services in the workplace, and e-learning opportunities online.


Sixteen members of the State College office of SF&Company volunteered their time as part of the Centre County United Way Day of Caring, an event designed to help community organizations make needed improvements to their facilities.  The participants worked at Centre County PAWS, a local non-euthanasia animal shelter, where they performed landscaping tasks such as mulching, weeding, rock-pulling, and hole-filling.  They also washed tarps that were recently used at the annual PAWS Pet Extravaganza.  The volunteers included Shannah Boring, Dina Boyles, Hope Bratton, Matt Conrad, CPA, Lisa Deibler, Rose Fetters, Amanda Keiffer, April McCool, Heather Pleskonko, CPA, Jodi Pringle, CPA, Andra Reason, CPA, Joe Rossi, Catherine Shirk, Barbie Weaver, Shannon Weaver, CPA, and Brandon Zlupko, CPA.


The Harrisburg office of SF&Company recently supported the American Heart Association by participating in the Capital Region’s Start! Heart Walk.  The participants included Brandon Blauch, Margui Erby, CPA, Chris Frederick, Jane Frymark, CPA, Nick Greyshock, CPA, CCIFP, Mark Tomco, CPA, and Edward Wagoner, CPA.  The group contributed over $500 to the fight against our nation’s number one and number three killers, heart disease and stroke.


Kimberly A. Fetrow, an Accounting Associate at SF&Company, recently helped to award the Women’s Network of York (WNY) New Beginnings Scholarship to its first recipient, Damika Moss.  The scholarship provides financial assistance to female students enrolled part-time at the York campus of Harrisburg Area Community College.  The funds cover the costs of tuition, fees, books, and/or program expenses for women age 30 or over who have attained a minimum GPA of 2.5 and demonstrated unmet financial need.


Robert E. Ribic, Jr., Director of Business Valuation and Litigation Support at SF&Company, joined with the PIAA, the Mid Penn Conference, and its football officials to draw attention to the fight against breast cancer.  During the first week of October, they used pink whistles as they officiated games in order to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  They also asked spectators to make contributions to the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition located at the Trout Run Business Center, 344 North Reading Road, Ephrata, PA 17522.
